LUCY CLIFT BLOXTON, born in 1805-1810 in Stafford County, VA. (had to have been the SISTER (not the daughter) of ARTHUR F. CLIFT (b. 1816; married to Marion M. Clift) and the daughter of FIELDING CLIFT (b. 1774) and Elizabeth Elkins who were married 31 March 1804.

As the daughter of Fielding L. & Elizabeth Elkins Clift (bc 1786 or after), LUCY CLIFT BLOXTON would have had brothers, LAWRENCE CLIFT, ARTHUR CLIFT, and ALBERT CLIFT. [Note that she named children with the middle names of "Lawrence"/Laurence, (Fielding) "Albert", and "Arthur".]

Children of Fielding Clift and Elizabeth Elkins Clift:
1. Lucy Clift Bloxton (b. ca 1805-1810)

Sadie Virginia (Sthreshley) Mrs. Morris Miller & Lillie Marion Hitt (linked to their FAG) are their daughters.
5. WILLIAM
On 1870 Census: William Clift 48, bc 1822, KG Co, VA (his mother, Elizabeth Clift, lives with him)

Lucy CLIFT Bloxton's nephews and nieces lived together or next door when her son, Fielding Albert Bloxton, was a boarder in their home:

On 1910 Census, Aquia, Stafford Co, VA, Fielding A. BLOXTON (70) is "boarding" with his mother's unmarried nephews & nieces--farmers William A. Clift, 60, & Thomas A. Clift, 68; sisters, Mettie A., 50, & Isabella L. Clift, 48 (next door to their brother's farm, John A. Clift, 63) and working as a "farmhand" in his advanced years!

In 1829, she became the first wife of WILLIAM ASHBY BLOXTON, Jr., who was a "Farmer of 10,000 acres." He was born circa 1808 in *Stafford County, VA. ("age 56" on June 23, 1860 Census, so born 1804 or after, on tax lists also).

They had 4 sons, THOMAS LAWRENCE/LAURENCE, FIELDING "ALBERT", WILLIAM ASHBY "Billy" III, & ALEXANDER EDWIN BLOXTON. Lucy died just two months after her fourth son was born--a strong indication that her death was related to his birth.

William Ashby Bloxton III, one of these sons, lived with FIELDING CLIFT (his grandfather or GREAT-UNCLE?), in 1850. Fielding's wife, Elizabeth (Elkins) Clift, was the sister of Benjamin Elkins who married Frances Barber. Elizabeth's niece, Rebecca Frances Elkins, daughter of Benjamin Elkins [maternal uncle of Lucy Clift Bloxton], married Arba Randall Packard, and her photo was in the family album of Lucretia Jett (Shackelford) Fines [now Bill Deyo's album], along with the photo of Lucretia's cousin, Orion Bloxton, of Selma, Alabama. Lucretia's grandmother, Catherine (Maddox) Proctor, was the sister of Benedicta (Maddox) Bloxton Fleury. It is odd that Lucretia's sister, Henrietta Catherine Shackelford, wife of Dr. Levi P. Dodge, named one of her two sons "Albert Arthur" Dodge. Maybe there is another connection?"

Deborah Williams told me on April 4, 2017 that Mr. Arba Packard's wife, Rebecca Frances (Elkins) Packard (daughter of Lucy Clift Bloxton's uncle Benjamin Elkins), was aunt to Louisa Bloxton Sanford.

Lucy Clift Bloxton died on May 27, 1846, at age 42, in Stafford County of a hemorrhage two months after her fourth son was born, having a disconsolate husband and sons--with an extensive circle of relations and friends to lament their melancholy bereavement.

At "age 56 yrs." WILLIAM died 16 JAN 1864 of "bellious/bilious fever" (old term for either typhoid fever, malaria, hepatitis or elevated temperature and bile emesis) in Stafford County, VA.

CHILDREN (by LUCY CLIFT):

1. THOMAS LAURENCE (b. circa 1835 in VA)

2. FIELDING ALBERT (b. circa 1839 in VA)

3. WILLIAM ASHBY III "Uncle Billy" (b. 16 OCT 1844, SC, VA – d. 27 APR 1892, Maplewood, York County, VA, age 48)

4. ALEXANDER EDWIN BLOXTON "Aleck," (b. 24 MAR 1846 in VA)(d. 10 JUN 1921), Farmer, fought for South, Stafford Light Artillery, in Civil War; (m. 7 OCT 1867, SC, VA) by Methodist pastor to
ELLA HENRY CONWAY (b. 15 JUN 1842, SC, VA) (d. 26 FEB 1917), daughter of Dr. Valentine Yelverton Conway, b. 11 OCT 1803 – d. 11 DEC 1881, (son of John Moncure Conway, b. 23 NOV 1779 – d. 1864, & Catherine Storke Peyton, b. 20 JUL 1786 – d. 10 APR 1865) & Mary Catherine Washington Henry (m. 22 DEC 1824) (daughter of Edward Hugh Henry & Elizabeth Washington Peyton, sister of Catherine Storke Peyton.)

Circa 1846, her widower husband married his 2nd wife and they had six children:

MARY ELIZABETH BURTON (JUN 1823 - d. 17 MAY 1906) - *age 84 to be "84" she would have had to be born in JUN 1821 -- some sources had her birth year as 1822.)

From Mark Burton [email protected]:
She was the daughter of Isaac Burton (c. 1771-1843) and Mary Marquess Burton (1779-1843), both of Stafford. I don't know the names of Isaac's parents, but it is likely that he descends from the same Burton family that has been in southern Stafford since at least 1680. Isaac owned nearly 300 acres in southern Stafford near either Horsepen or Rocky Run (located between the Rappahannock and what is today Rt. 17. The land was formerly part of the estate of James Hunter, who owned the Revolutionary War era Ironworks near Falmouth.)

Isaac and Mary Marquess had at least 11 children from 1800 to 1822/1825. Mary E. Burton was the eleventh, but there is a discrepancy among sources regarding the year in which she was born. I have seen one source that indicates Mary was born 7 June 1825, but other sources indicate she might have been born in 1822.

They were married before #5 son-Robert Jefferson Bloxton was born in 1847-1848)

Before she married, she and her sisters inherited land in Stafford from her father Isaac when he died in 1843, but Mary later sold her interest to her sisters,

Mary E. Burton's siblings were:

Harris W. Burton (1800-1883)
Strother M. Burton (1802-1851)
Terrissa (sp?) M. Burton (1804-1889)
Emily M. Burton Brown (1806-1856?)
Joseph S. Burton (1808-1890)
Eliza A. Burton (1810-1841)
Robert I. Burton (1812-1840)
Elijah M. Burton (1815-1890)
Arthur A. Burton (1817-1905?)
John Edwin Burton (1820-1901)
