Benjamin Franklin Mathias, 87, of Mathias, WV passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

Born on December 26, 1925 in Mathias, WV, he was the son of the late John Thomas Mathias and Julia Ann (Sager) Mathias.

He was a life long farmer. He was a member of the Garretts Chapel United Methodist Church and Modern Woodmen of America.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Blanche (Heishman) Mathias, on November 30, 2010 whom he had married on July 30, 1945 in Cumberland, MD. He was also preceded in death by two son-in-laws, three brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are five daughters, Constance Hoover and husband Richard of Mathias, WV, Sharon Mathias and husband Weldon of Quicksburg, VA, Rue Ann Russ and husband Roger of Elizabeth City, N.C., Amber Tiller of Kernersville, N.C., Crystal Bane and husband Dennis of Fredricksburg, VA., three sisters, Beulah Barb of New Market, VA, Ressie Hahn of Wardensville, WV, Mary Getz of New Market, VA, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Garretts Chapel United Methodist Church in Mathias, WV with Pastor Deborah Shreve and Pastor Jonathan Hedrick officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mathias, WV.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening 6:00-8:00 P.M. at McKee Funeral Home, Baker, WV
