Obituary: Appearing in the Caldwell Messenger, May 16, 1940.

After a journey of more than three score years and ten, John Stonehocker closed his eyes to the scenes of earth to join that innumerable company who are trying the realities of the unseen world.
He was born in Barnard, Missouri, on the 24th day of September, 1870, and on the 13th day of May, 1940, took his departure from this life at the Caldwell Hospital, having reached the age of 70 years, 7 months, and 19days.
While yet as a boy of 14, he came with his parents to Sumner County, Kansas, and grew to manhood in the vicinity of Corbin and Caldwell. At the age of 21 he was united in marriage to Minnie Hildreth. Seven children were born to this union; four of whom proceeded their father in death. The three still remaining are Albert, Boyd, and Guy of Taft California. He has four grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
The brothers are; C.P. Stonehocker, of Hudson, Colorado; William of Talala, Oklahoma; and Samuel of Drummond, Oklahoma. The sisters are; Mrs. A.B. Yost of Kansas City, Missouri; and Mrs. S.M. Sturm of Caldwell, with many other relatives and friends.
He united with Fall Center Methodist Church, but on going west transferrred his membership to Taft, California, where it remained to his death.
