Obituary of Joseph H. Stonehocker:

Joe H. Stonehocker was born in Stockton (note: the correct county is Coshocton) county Ohio Oct.6, 1846. He passed from this life January 15, 1931: Age 84 years, 3 months and 9 days.
He moved to Nodaway County, Missouri with his parents in 1865. On August 16, 1866 he married Lydia A. Billings. To this union ten children were born: four sons and six daughters. Four daughters have proceeded the father in death. Millie and Bessie Cloe died in infancy, and Nancy Jane and Alice May after they had grown to womanhood. Mr. and Mrs. Stonehocker have lived in the Corbin and Caldwell community for more than 46 yrs. During the early part of this time Mr. Stonehocker was a actively engaged in the cattle business, and the most of the remaining years on the farm, until his health condition made it necessary to retire from active work.
Mr. and Mrs. Stonehocker celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary the 16th of the last August. At the time of his death they had been married the longest of any couple living in these communities.
“Uncle Joe” as he was known, has been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Caldwell for 28 yrs, and friends of the family say that as long as he was able he was always ready to support community interests. He knew a great deal of the pioneer conditions in the development of the early life of this community and shared in the hardships that it brought.
He leaves to morn for his going, his wife, Mrs. Lydia Stonehocker, four sons, John, Salona Beach, Cal., Preston, Wanamaker, South Dakota, Will of Kaw City, Ok. and Sam of Lahoma, Ok: two daughters Mrs. Clara Yost, Belleville, Kas. , and Josie Sturm of Corbin. Two sisters Martha Fanning, Maryville, Mo., and Sarah Wallace, Hill City Kas. Two brothers, Samuel and Charles Stonehocker; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, besides many friends and neighbors that have become acquainted with him through the years that have passed.
Rev. M. E. Rickard of the Methodist Church of Corbin was in charge of the service. We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to our friends and neighbors for their sympathy and kindness, also the many beautiful floral offerings, in our latest bereavement of our husband and father.
