Daughter of Bird and Lydia (Pennington) Billings.

Obituary:

Lydia A. Billings was born in Platte County, Missouri, Feb. 25, 1849. When she was one year of age she moved with her parents to Nodaway County, Missouri. Here she grew to womanhood. When she was fifteen years of age she united with the Mission Baptist Church of Bales Mo. and remained faithful until her death.
She was united in marriage to Joseph H. Stonehocker on August 16, 1866 at Marysville, Mo. and to this union were born 10 children, six daughters and four sons. Her husband and four daughters preceded her in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Stonehocker moved to Sumner county, Kansas with their family in 1884, and have resided in the vicinity of Corbin and Caldwell ever since. The past six years Mrs. Stonehocker has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Josie Sturm.
She leaves to mourn her departure four sons and two daughters: John of Ravenden Springs, Ark., Preston of Hudson, Colo., Will of Tolala, Okla., Sam of Lahoma, Okla., Mrs. Clara Yost of Kansas City Mo., and Josie Sturm of Caldwell. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was a loving mother and a good neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need.
She composed this little verse to be read at her funeral:
I struggled hard to serve my Lord,
Whose name I adore;
But at last in his loving arm,
I’m safe on yonder shore.

Our Mother

God in his goodness from above,
gave us the mother that we all love.
From all things good he took a part
and put them in her loving heart.
In memory of your love, we did our best
to make life easy while approaching final rest.
