LONE GROVE β€” Funeral services for Betty Jo Taliaferro are scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lone Grove First Baptist Church with the Rev. Morgan Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Taliaferro Family Cemetery. A visitation for the family to greet friends will be from 6-8 this evening at the Craddock Funeral Home.


Mrs. Taliaferro was born January 15, 1956, in Ardmore, to James Wiley Riggs and Edna Florene (Elliott) Riggs. She passed this life on April 22, 2013, in the local hospital.


Betty was a graduate of Ardmore High School in 1974. She and John Taliaferro were married June 10, 1977, at First Baptist Church in Lone Grove. On April 9, 1980, she had her best friend, Lewis Taliaferro, her only child. Betty was employed at Carter County Abstract in the late 70s and early 80s; she also worked many years beside her husband, John, as his co-owner of John's Furniture Store, where she delivered, ordered and sold the furniture. Betty enjoyed collecting Victorian Antiques she would often visit local antique stores and Hobby Lobby. She also enjoyed making all of the desserts at all of the family gatherings.


She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John of the home; her mother, Edna Riggs of Ardmore; her son, Lewis and his wife, Stephanie of Lone Grove; her brother, Bobby G. Riggs and his wife, Mary of Ardmore; three grandchildren, Raynee, Wyatt and Nolan Taliaferro; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Linda Wood, Deb Martin and Carol Roberts; mother-in-law, Bobby Taliaferro; childhood friend, Brenda Trammell; and in-laws and great friends, William (Bill) Fenton and wife, Stacy; and Bobby Athey and wife, Tammy.


She was preceded in death by her father, James Wiley Riggs; and grandparents, Albert and Wyoma Riggs.


Pallbearers for her service will be Steve Taliaferro, Errol Taliaferro, Jimmy Taliaferro, James Riggs, Jared Hembree and Jonathan Wright.


Betty was a 14 year survivor of breast cancer. She was a very tough lady who will be greatly missed. She was always ready to tackle the next obstacle.
