Edna Florene Riggs, age 80, passed away on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Ardmore. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest with Pastor Leroy Holman officiating. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park of Ardmore.
Edna was born on June 9, 1934, to Joseph W Elliott and Wyoma (Witt) Elliott at Waurika. Her family moved to Ardmore when she was very young. She married James W Riggs on March 7, 1949. She spent the rest of her life in Ardmore being a homemaker and raising her family. Edna was known by many names; ‘Babe’ to her husband and family because she was the youngest of her siblings, ‘Flo’ to many friends, ‘MaMa’ to her grandchildren and Aunt Florene to her nieces and nephews. She loved her family and they her. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of times spent at MaMa and PaPa’s house, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved gardening and working outside, her house was always surrounded by beautiful flowers of all kinds and colors. She was the one who took care of everybody when they got sick. When dad was in the Veterans Hospital, she was out there almost every day by his side. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wiley Riggs, daughter, Betty Jo (Riggs) Taliaferro, brother, James S. Elliott, sisters; Minnie Soapes, Dosha Jones, and Dessie Satterwhite, and her dear friend and sister-in-law, Lois Riggs.
Edna is survived by her son, Bobby Riggs and wife, Mary, of Ardmore. Three grandchildren; Julie (Wright) Hembree and husband, Jared, of Ardmore, James D. Riggs and wife, Lyndsay, of Lone Grove, and Lewis J. Taliaferro and wife, Stephanie, of Lone Grove. Eight great-grandchildren: Jonathan and Lea Wright, Victoria, Alexandria, and Madison Riggs, and Wyatt, Nolan, and Raynee Taliaferro, and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Riggs, Lewis Taliaferro, Jonathan Wright, Jared Hembree, Dylan Brooks, and Kenny Brooks.
Visitation will be held this evening, Jan. 12, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Griffin~Hillcrest
