Maxine Emma Cravens


Maxine Emma Cravens, died early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013, at her home. She was 89.

The daughter of Alvin Pappan and Bertha Leona "Daisy" Kirkbride Pappan, Maxine was born May 20, 1923, in Ark. City, Kan.

A Kaw Tribal member, she grew up in the rural Newkirk area and received her education at Sweetwater School east of Newkirk.

In 1941, Maxine and Wayne Forbeck were married. They made their home in Newkirk until their marriage dissolved in divorce.

On Feb. 11, 1950, she and Charles George "Jack" Cravens were married in Perry. They established their home in Enid where they lived for a time before moving to Newkirk.

Maxine's work history includes employment as a waitress at several restaurants in Newkirk; janitorial service for the Soil Conservation office and for the Kanza Clinic; and assembling Bingo packets in the paper room for Kaw Bingo.

Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church of Newkirk. Her hobbies included ceramics, camping and playing Bingo.

Maxine is survived by her children, Gary Forbeck and Ronnie Forbeck, both of Newkirk, Charles and Chris Cravens of Winfield, Kan., Debbie and Bud Lewman of Newkirk, and Terri and David Humble of Burbank; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, James Pappan.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at First Baptist Church of Newkirk with the Rev. Rex. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Those serving as casket bearers will be Kevin Forbeck, Chad Forbeck, Jason Bliss, Travis Patterson, Stephen Leven and Joseph Leven.

A memorial fund has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made in Maxine's name through Eastman National Bank, Box 468, Newkirk, OK 74647-0468.
