Bertha Leona Pappan
Bertha Leona "Daisy" Pappan, longtime Newkirk resident, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, March 30, 2013, at her daughter's home. She was 106.
The daughter of Moses Gaston Kirkbride and Sarah Emma Goddard Kirkbride, Daisy was born April 8, 1906, at Berlin, Oklahoma Territory.
The family moved to the Newkirk area in a covered wagon, and Daisy received her education in the Canadian and Hardy rural schools.
On June 27, 1922, Daisy and Alvin Pappan were married in Newkirk. They established their first home on a farm east of Newkirk. From this union four children were born.
They eventually moved into Newkirk, and she was employed for a time as a nurse's aid with the Newkirk Nursing Center. Mr. Pappan died March 9, 1970. Daisy was a member of Christ's Church of Newkirk. Her hobbies included making quilts and crafts of all kinds. She cherished her time with her family.
Daisy is survived by a daughter, Maxine Cravens of Newkirk; two sons, Walter Pappan of Newkirk and Bruce Pappan of Ponca City; and numerous grand and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Alvin, Daisy was preceded in death by one son, James Pappan; her parents; and her six siblings.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the First United Methodist Church of Newkirk with Danny W. Cornish officiating. Interment will follow in the Newkirk Cemetery. Miller-Stahl Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Grandsons serving as casket bearers will be Todd Pappan, Daak Love, Roger Pappan, Jason Bliss, Kevin Forbeck and Charles Cravens.
