Nicholas was the first of seven children born in Chicago from 1900 until 1910, named after his grandfather Klaas Leep. His parents were both born in the Netherlands.

In April 1910 Nicholas Leep (9 years old, born in Illinois) his parents Oscar Leep (35, Holland, farmer) and Sarah (34, Holland, mother of 6 living children), and his, all in Illinois born, siblings Harry (8), Julian (6), Therisa (4), Edwin (2) and Clara (2 months) were living on their own farm in the southern part of Chicago, Ward 32, Calumet Township.

In 1911 Nicholas' family Leep emigrated to Canada.

In December 1914 his sister Mary was born in Swift Current, in the southwestern part of the Canadian central province Saskatchewan, about 45 miles northwest of the former Dutch settlement Cramersburg, where the family Leep homesteaded. In February 1916 his mother Sarah died there at the age of 40 years.

In 1916 Nicholas Leep (15), his father, widower Andrew Leep (40), seven siblings and grandmother Clara Leep (66) were administrated in Maple Creek, in the extreme southwestern part of Saskatshewan, about 70 miles southwest of Cramersburg.

In March 1918 his father Andrew remarried in Cramersburg to the ten years younger, Dutch Catharina Maria Elisabeth (Katie) Otto.

Hardship and drought caused the family Leep to leave Canada and they moved about 1918 to Shepherd, Yellowstone County, Montana.

On July 3, 1924 Nicholas Leep married, very probably in Sheperd, at the age of 24 years the two years older Stijntje (Styne) Hoogeveen.

In April 1930 Nick A Leep (29, farmer), his wife Stynie (33, Holland), their children Marjorie G (5, Montana), Andrew W (3, Montana [born in August 1926 in Sheperd]), Henry H (2, born in 1927 in Sheperd), and Aline S (0, Montana) were living on a rented farm in School District 10, very probably in or near the town of Sheperd, located northeast of Billings, the seat of Yellowstone County and the capital of Montana, north of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

In 1935 Nick's family Leep lived (still) at a rural place in Yellowstone County, Montana.

In 1940 farmer and manager Nick A Leep (39), his wife Styne (42), daughter Marjorie (14), son Andrew W (13), son Henry G (12), daughter Alene (10) and son Donald (7, born in Montana too) were living in a rented house in West Creek Township, Lake County, located in the extreme northwestern part of Indiana, adjacent to Cook County and Chicago in Illinois.

In November 1948 his wife Styne Leep died at the age of 51 years in Martin, Shelbyville, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan.

In March 1950 Nick lived in the Michigan Shelbyville/Martin area, like his brother Jerry did too.

On November 5, 1970 Nick Leep was still living in Michigan, Allegan County when he died at the age 70 years of a heart attack while hunting in southwest Montana. Two days before Mr Leep was reelected to the Allegan County Board of Commissioners, where he had served since 1965. A retired farmer, he was also on the board of directors of the Allegan County Medical Care Facility and a former elder and deacon of the East Martin Christian Reformed Church.

On November 10, 1993 his second wife Anna, former widow of John Bykerk, died and was buried in Garfield Park Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
