Mrs. Gertrude Brown, 82, of Waverly died at 10:32 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 6 at Passavant hospital in Jacksonville. She had been a patient there for one week.

She was born August 31, 1890, a daughter of James and Sarah Howard Bailey. She was married May 3, 1908 to Edward Brown, who preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1964. A son, John was killed in World War II.

Survivors include nine daughters, Mrs. John Jeffers, Mrs.Charles Roberts and Mrs. Royal Green, all of Springfield, Mrs. Sam Piercy and Mrs. Dale Heriford, both of Waverly, Mrs. Bill Johnson and Mrs. Richard Druktenis, both of Santa Monica, Calif, Mrs. Stanley Fletcher of Modesto and Mrs. John Burnell of Jcksonville; two sons, Edward of Bethalto and Robert of Springfield, two stepsons, Leonard Brown of Kane and Herman Brown of Wellington; 33 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
