John William Stewart, oldest child of Calvin and Mary Ann Litzy Stewart was born in Limestone County, Alabama on 11 Jan 1845. As was the custom of that day, when he reached sixteen, he was sent to a relative who lived in Giles County, Tennessee to work for his room and board. This was done as the belief that the young man would learn even more about farming and maybe discover new ways of farming to better his own farm when he became an adult. John William, aka Bill supposedly didn't like his TN relatives and instead, he ran away and joined the Confederate Army, undoubtly lying about his young age, John William Stewart, oldest child of Calvin and Mary Ann Litzy Stewart was born in Limestone County, Alabama on 11 Jan 1845.
