James Omer Bell was the oldest son of James Thomas "J.T." Bell and Nancy Eldora "Dora" May Bell, born 15 Dec 1894 in Crawford AR. James met his wife-to-be Caroline Strong Edwards while she was working on the local train and they were married on 28 Apr 1917 in London, Pope Co. AR. The couple had six children: Jimmie Wayne (daughter), Evelyn, Jack, Joe, Wendell, and Dora; all but Jimmie were born in Erick OK after James and Caroline moved there in late 1920. Both James and Caroline worked in her father-in-laws store in Erick, and James also took work as a carpenter. Times were difficult in the Depression years, but the family always had food on the table, and were able to give meals to those in need. When WWII broke out, James found work for the U.S. Navy as a carpenter and cabinet maker on ships in Honolulu HA in May 1942. Caroline joined him in Honolulu after the war in early 1946, where they lived for nearly 3 years, returning to the mainland in Dec 1948. The couple retired to Costa Mesa CA, where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
