Ellis Cooper, Sr.

Ellis T. Cooper Sr., 84, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 15, 1987, at a local health-care center.

A native of Miami county, Kan., he moved to Missouri in 1926 and farmed many years in the Guilford, Mo. area.

Mr. Cooper moved in 1954 to St. Joseph, where he was associated with Affiliated Foods, retiring in 1976.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Cooper, in 1982. Mr. Cooper also was preceded in death by a son, Byron O., in 1981.

Mr. Cooper was a member of the Ashland Avenue United Methodist Church and St. Joseph Masonic Lodge 78 A.F. & A.M.

Surviving are three sons, Ellis T. Jr. and Wayne R., both of St. Joseph, and L. Max, Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Leona L. Capehart, St. Joseph; three brothers, Kenneth K., Humboldt, Kan,; Edwin, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Jesse V., McPherson, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3p.m. Friday at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Chapel, with Masonic services under the auspices of the St. Joseph Lodge 78. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at the chapel.
