Funeral services for Mr. Gerrit Roos, who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep, at about 5:40 a.m., following a heart attack Sunday, October 11, 1959, were held at the residence in Boyden on Tuesday, October 13th, at 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Boyden First Reformed church. The Rev. Henry G. Schoon was in charge.

A men's quartet from Hospers sang "Going Down the Valley" and Mrs. Larry Salmon and Mrs. Ray Smit sang "Saved by Grace." Mrs. Case Slothouber was accompanist at the organ. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery at Hospers, with Vander Ploeg funeral service of Sioux Center in charge of arrangements. Pall-bearers were four sons and two sons-in-law, Sander, Arie, Dick and John Roos, William Van Meeteren and Leonard Brooks.

Gerrit Roos was born on a farm near Alton, Iowa, on April 15, 1887. He spent his boyhood days in the Alton and Hospers vicinity. He had reached the age of 72 years, 5 months and 11 days.

He was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers for 50 years. On May 29, 1908, he was married to Hattie Brink of Hospers. They resided on a farm near Hospers until two years ago when they retired and moved into the home where he passed away in Boyden. On May 29, 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Roos celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Hattie; three daughters and five sons, Sander Roos of Chandler, Minnesota; Arie G. Roos of Sheldon (Esther) Mrs. Wm. Van Meeteren of Melvin; John Roos of Primghar; (Jessmina) Mrs. Leonard Brooks of Paullina; Dick Roos of Lake Wilson, Minnesota; James Roos and Jeanette Roos at home; 15 grandchildren; 3 greatgrandchildren; two sisters (Nettie) Mrs. Charles Brinks and (Anna) Mrs. Marinus Schuller Of Hospers, and one brother, Jake Roos of Hospers. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Hospers, Sheldon, Alton, Orange City and Boyden vicinity and from Minnesota.
