Jane Van Ess was born at Pella, Marion Co., Iowa. She died at Hospers, Sioux
Co., Iowa.

Her obit:

Hospers: Another one of Hospers pioneers, Mrs. Jane Roos, 85, died at her home
Friday evening, December 8, at 10 o'clock. She was born June 30, 1859 at Pella,
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Van Ess. She had been an invalid for the
past 17 years, and confined to her bed and wheel chair.
On February 26, 1883 she was married to Arie Roos. They had nine children, four
of them preceding their mother in death: Dick Roos, Jessie (Mrs. John Brink,)
Edward, and Nettie, who died in infancy. Mr. Roos died July 5, 1917. She is
survived by five children: Tillie (Mrs. P. Schuller), Gerrit, Jake, Nettie (Mrs.
Chas. Brink,) and Anna (Mrs. Marinus Schuller,) all of Hospers. Also 29
grandchildren and 28 greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 13, at 1 p.m. in the home and
1:30 p.m. in the First Reformed Church, with the Rev. G. Docter in charge. Six
grandsons were pallbearers. Interment was in the Hospers cemetery.
