Mr. Shirley Wayne King of Raymond, beloved husband of Dora King, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in Raymond after a brave and uncomplaining struggle against his illness.
Shirley was born September 21, 1911, in Raymond where he lived most of his life. He spent his early school years in Raymond and later attended the BYU.
He married Dora Walburger December 4, 1940 and they resided in Raymond except for 3 ½ years when Shirley served in the army in Ottawa. He was stationed most of the time at Army Headquarters as a Sgt. in the identification division. After the war, he joined his father at King Motors. When the garage sold, he worked at Canadian Sugar Factories and then went to the Raymond Hospital where he was employed for 20 years as the administrator.
Shirley was deeply involved in music and drama and he always had a fine horse to ride. He was an avid golfer. He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served willingly in many capacities. He was an accomplished saxophonist and played many years with the Raymond Canadians and later at Sven Ericksen's with the Keys.
His beloved daughters, Barbara (Bruce) Nalder and Linda (Phil) Jensen, along with his 8 grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Epp, Kristen (Curl) Pitman, David (Angie) Nalder, and Cortney Naldor, Robert (Chelle) Jensen, Dana (Rylan) Schaffer, Michael (Amy) and Monty (Dawna) Jensen, along with his two great grandchildren Cameron McKay and Jordan Pittman, will miss him deeply.
Shirley had many friends and was a truly honest and dedicated man. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Enough cannot be said about the kindness and caring shown by Dr. Steed and the staff at the Raymond General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Knight Street Chapel, Raymond, with Bishop David R. Wood officiating. Friends may meet the family prior to the services (only) from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Interment in the Temple Hill Cemetery.
In living memory of Mr. Shirley Wayne King, a tree will be planted in the Lethbridge area by Christensen Salmon Funeral Home. Lethbridge Herald, September 14, 1999
