Dixie Jo Kerns, 57, Savannah, died Friday, August 13, 2004 in her home.
Born December 4, 1946 in Watson, Missouri, to Lester Raymond Dozier and Hazel May Webster. Her mother died in 1947 and she was adopted by Donald (46204492) and Esther (Bradfield) (46204493) Douglas). Dixie lived in Savanah from 1947 - 1959, and had also lived in Oregon in 1959 - 1974 and was a 1964 graduate of Oregon High School. Savannah became her home in 1974.
Dixie had been employed with LaVerna Village Nursing Home for 30 years; 22 as a nurse's aide and 8 years as assistant activities director.
On May 11, 1974, she married Larry Kerns, who survives of the home.
Her adopted parents, Donald and Esther (Bradfield) Douglas; two brother, Harvey Lavern, and Gene Dozier and two sisters, Kay and Twila, preceded her in death.
Additional survivors include two sons, Rick and Scott, both of St. Joseph; five sisters, Susie Jones of Buffalo, Missouri, Loretta Norris of Concord, California, Patty Buckston, of Virginia, Donna McCann of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Ruth White of Hamburg, Iowa; three brothers, Sam Dozier, Jack Dozier, and Bud Dozier, all of California; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, August 16, 2004 in the Breit & Hawkins Funeral Chapel, Savannah, Missouri. Interment was in Bennett Lane Cemetery, Savannah, Missouri. For online condolences visit, www.briet-hawkins.com.
