SGT. GUY MYERS, AERIAL GUNNER, KILLED IN ACTION

Carlisle, R.D. 3, Man On Flying Fortress Lost on Oct. 4 Raid

Staff Sergeant Guy A. Myers, gunner and aerial engineer on a Flying Fortress, was killed in action on October 4, according to word received yesterday from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Myers, Carlisle R.D. 3.

The telegram corrected the department's announcement on October 14 that the 22-year-old flyer had been wounded seriously and gave no details. It stated only that Sergeant Myers had been killed in action in the "European area."

He had been based in England since last September 1 and was there only a month when he participated in his first bombing raid, his father said yesterday. The father assumed that the flight in which his son met death was a mission over occupied Europe or Germany.

Sergeant Myers entered the service on September 18, 1942, with a county draft group. At the time of inductions he worked on a chicken farm and prior to that had a job at the C.H. Masland and Sons plant here.

A brother, Pfc. Jesse L. Myers, is stationed at Carlisle Barracks with the 32nd Medical Battalion. Two other brothers, Emmett and Lee, reside at home. Mrs. Ralph Line, Governor Ritner Highway, is a sister. His parents reside along the Enola-Roxbury Road.
