Gilbert was born 4 January 1930 on the Roisum farm, near Tingelstad, in the Hadeland district of Norway per the Gran parish records. (The stone is in error.) Although the stone says Gulbrand, he was actually baptized as Gudbrand Gudbrandsen per Gran parish records. His parents were Gudbrand Olsen and Kirsti Gudbrandsdtr, who had married 4 January 1821 in Hadeland, Norway.

Gudbrand left Lunner, Norway for America on 11 June 1850 on the ship "Vesta." In abt November 1854 he married Martha. They had 13 known children. Not listed below are 2 children who died very young: Ole (1858-1859), Christian (1862-1863).

Gulbrand Vinger (1830-1924) Born in Norway emigrated to America in 1850 and made his home in the Yellowstone area. Married Martha Carlson in 1854 and purchased land from the government in the town of York for .75 per acre. Civil war veteran. Moved onto a farm west of Argyle in 1894. Grandfather of Lawrence Vinger, Argyle businessman who sold international Harvester equipment at Vinger implements.

Gulbrand Vinger died May 15th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nim Nelson, aged 94 years and 6 months. He was born in Gran Hadeland, Norway, Jan. 2, 1830. He came to America in 1850. In the year 1854 he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Carlsen. After his marriage he moved onto his farm in York, Green Co., where they made their home for forty years.
In 1864 Mr. Vinger answered the call of his Country and went to war. He saw duty with the 46th Wisconsin Infantry. For 27 years Mr. Vinger has had his home in Argyle. In 1911 his faithful wife passed to her eternal reward.
Mr. Vinger is survived by six sons and two daughters. The sons are: Lewis, Christ, Edward and Theodore of Argyle, Henry of Lamont and Oliver of Colorado. The daughters are: Mrs. Nim Nelson and Mrs. Nils Nelson of Argyle. He is also survived by forty eight grandchildren and thirty three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Nelson residence and from the Argyle Lutheran Church, Rev. O.S. Paulson officiating. Six grandsons were pallbearers.
