Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Avon for Eldred H. Himsl age 84 of Avon who died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at St. Benedict's Senior Community. Reverend Stephen Beauclair, OSB will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Joseph and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in St. Joseph.
Eldred was born on August 3, 1918 in Collegeville, Minnesota to Frank and Julia (Achman) Himsl. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Eldred married Rose C. Knoblach on June 25, 1947 at St. John's Abbey Church in Collegeville.
He was employed as a Chef by the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 30 years. Eldred also farmed in Avon Township. He was a member of St. Benedict's Parish.
Survivors include his children, John of Delavan, Wisconsin, Roseann Johnson of Aitkin, Karen Hirdler of St. Cloud and Steven of Avon; 11 grandchildren; two great granddaughters; four brothers, Meinulf of St. Joseph, Alois of Easton, Pennsylvania, Amor of Avon, and Melborne of Avon; three sisters, Marie Poppen of Little Falls, June Litchy of Princeton, and Joanne Pflueger of Collegeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on July 12, 2000; infant daughter, Mary; sister, Mildred Mock; and brother, Gerald.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
