Dr. Clifton A. Forrester, 76, of Macon (GA), a former Baptist minister in Columbus died Monday of a heart attack while in surgery at the Coliseum Hospital in Macon.
The funeral was Wednesday with burial in the Macon Memorial Park.
Dr. Forrester, a native of Cowarts, Ala., graduated from Columbus High School. He received his bachelor's and doctorate of divinity degrees in 1937 and 1959 from Mercer University.
He had been ordained as a minister at Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Columbus. Among other services, he was pastor emeritus of Tattnall Square Baptist Church and interim pastor of Log Cabin Baptist Church, both of Macon.
His career included service on conventions such as the administration committee of the executive committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention, was a former chairman of the Georgia Baptist nominating committee and three terms as president of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
Survivors include his wife Mary; three sons, the Rev. Richard Arthur Forrester of Macon, Donald W. Forrester of Americus, Ga., and Daniel M. Forrester of August; a sister, Mary Jane Calhoun of Columbus; four brothers, James Forrester, Dewey Forrester and Charles Forrester of Columbus and Carl Forrester of Phenix City; and six grandchildren.
