Edwin "Ed" A. Allan, 92, of Belle Fourche, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish with Chaplain Charley Conger officiating. Burial was at the Pine Slope Cemetery, Belle Fourche.
A memorial has been established.

Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish was in charge of arrangements.

Edwin was born near Camp Crook Aug. 1, 1912, to Vere and Edna (Lasiter) Allan. Ed was raised and attended school in the Camp Crook area.

Edwin married Faith Nixdorff Dec. 22, 1932, in Belle Fourche. They spent their early years ranching in eastern Montana. The couple moved to Whitewood where he worked as a foreman at the Thomas Thompson ranch. They moved to Belle Fourche in 1948, where Edwin was an independent truck driver and a cattle buyer for many years.

Edwin belonged to the South Dakota Race Horse Association and was very proud of his Quarter Horses. He also owned The South Dakota Champion Gelding of 1990.

Survivors include four daughters, Virginia and Gerald Pfleger, Spokane, Wash., Verlie Cooper, Spearfish, Vonnie and Dave Gross, Gillette, Wyo., and Vicki Allen, Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Esyln Grooters, Sanborn, Iowa, and Margaret Cooper, Douglas, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Ed was proceeded in death by his wife of 58 years, Faith (Nixdorff) Allan; his parents Vere and Edna Allan; two brothers, Francis "Bus" Allan and Leslie Allan, and two sons-in-law, Robert Cooper and James Allen.
