Eslyn Grooters, age 97 of Sanborn, IA died Friday, February 1, 2013 at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA.

Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, Feb. 5th at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Sanborn, IA, with Rev. Thomas A. Connors officiating.

Burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn.

Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 4th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Sanborn.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Eslyn Lorraine Grooters, daughter of Vere M. and Edna (Lasater) Allan, was born July 25, 1915 at their ranch home in Carter County, Montana. She attended grade school in rural Montana and graduated from Camp Crook High School in 1934. After her education she worked in the hospital at Camp Crook, South Dakota. There she met Henry Edward Grooters. The two were united in marriage on May 16, 1935 at Belle Fourche, SD. They made their home in Sanborn, IA where Eslyn and Henry operated a café for several years. They began farming in 1939 around Sanborn until retiring and moving back into Sanborn in 1993. On February 20, 2002 Eslyn's husband, Henry died after 66 years of marriage. Eslyn remained in her home in Sanborn until July of 2008 when she moved to the Prairie View Inn in Sanborn.

Eslyn was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Sanborn, active with the church board, parsonage committee and the United Methodist Women's Circle for many years. She also was a member of the Farm Bureau Women's group and Friendly 12 Birthday Club. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing cards, cooking and baking. Most of all she enjoyed family times together.

This past Friday, February 1, 2013 Eslyn passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, IA at the age of 97. Left to cherish her memory are three children, Glenn (wife, MaryAnn) Grooters of Sanborn, IA, Tim (wife, Diane) Grooters of Johnston, IA and Ann (husband, Ron) Peterson of Sioux City, IA; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Margaret Cooper of Casper, WY; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vere and Edna Allan; her husband, Henry E. Grooters; two sons, infant Allan Grooters and Lyle Grooters; three brothers, Lesley, Francis and Edwin Allan.
