Joyce Elaine Carr, 86, of Port Lavaca went to be with her loving Lord and Savior on November 11, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 2, 1926 in Grayson, LA to the late Gabriel Elijah and Pauline McKeithen.
Joyce and husband, W.J moved to Port Lavaca in 1947 and she started working as a waitress at Shellfish Restaurant. She also worked at Coles Department Store, Montgomery Ward and later as a clerk for the City of Port Lavaca. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Port Lavaca, the Eastern Star and the Good Sam's Camping Club.
She was a loving, caring wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her sons, James E. Carr, Sr. and wife Mary of Runge, Jerry W. Carr and wife Ruth of Victoria, Keith L. Carr, Sr. and wife Monica of Port Lavaca; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, O.A. "Billy" McKeithen and wife Mildred of Louisiana; niece Joan Sykes and husband Leon of Louisiana; nephew Gary McKeithen of Texas and many more numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, W.J. Carr, Jr.; sisters, Florence Bates, Moise Saucier, Edith Walters, Theresa Head, and Naomi Biggs; brothers, Morris McKeithen, Robert McKeithen and A.G. McKeithen.
A time of visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca with the Rev. Bill Swain officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, James Carr, Jr., Rodney Carr, John Carr, Walter Carr, Keith Carr, Jr. and great-grandson Brandon Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Lee, Dr. Earl Mangin, Leon Sykes, Stace Johns, Jake Carr, Zachary Everett, Keelin Escalente, Jakorious Williams and Issac Cardona.
If so desired memorial donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas or the American Cancer Society .
