Taft, Calif. — EUGENE JOHN FISHER JR.

Eugene John Fisher JR. passed away August 9th, 2011 in his sleep of Interstitial Lung Disease at the age of 44. He was born June 24, 1967 in Everett, Washington to Eugene Fisher Sr. and Irene Fisher.

Gene was raised in Seattle, Washington along with his brothers; Mike Fisher and George Vossen, sisters; Roberta, Joan and Jean Vossen.

He attended primary school at Angle Lake and he and his family moved to Taft in December of 1976. He attended Taft Primary, Roosevelt, Lincoln and then Taft Union High School where he graduated in 1985.

Gene worked at many local restaurants including Paik's in Taft and the Olive Garden in Bakersfield. He moved back to Washington for a short time, but soon returned to Taft. He married Nancy Brick in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 7th, 1992 and they made their home in Taft. Gene worked at the Midway Driller newspaper as Editor and maintained his own column called "Off the Top".

In February 2002, Gene received the Driller's award for outstanding employee. While working as Editor; Gene attended many events. His favorites included The Night Before Christmas and The Studio L Dancers, where he was an elf. He loved reading Dr. Seuss books to local school children, along with participating in many other events for local schools. He was able to enjoy these activities until his appendix burst and he became disabled with multiple health problems.

Gene loved his computer and playing games of all kinds. He particularly enjoyed running crews through many role-playing games and beta-testing new games. He loved to play chess and watch old movies with his wife. Gene had many friends over the years and lit up the room with his stories and jokes, always leaving the group laughing. He and his brother Mike used to sing at Toppers Restaurant. He had a golden voice. He taught himself how to play the guitar and sing Elvis songs. At the end of all his songs he would say "Love the Momma."

Gene is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Fisher Sr. (1989) Taft, California; sister, Jean Wells (2008) of North Carolina; brother, George Vossen (2008) of Taft, California; brother-in-law, Bill Wells (2005) Nashville, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Harry Gross Jr. (2006) of Fellows, California; brother-in-law, Jerry Ballard Sr. (2009) Pueblo, Colorado; and godfather, Al Coulston (ca. 1970) of Seattle, Washington.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Nancy Fisher of Taft; mother, Irene Fisher of Taft; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Susan Fisher of Taft; their children, Charissa Fisher of Taft, and Morissa (Fisher) Buschbacher of Bakersfield; sister, Roberta Ballard, her children Jerry Ballard Jr., and his children, BreAnn Ballard and Brandon Ballard, all of Pueblo, Colorado; Irene Ballard (Wilner), her husband Mike Wilner of Mercer Island, Washington, her children Jessica Ballard of Bellingham, Washington, Jerrica Downs of Garden Grove California, Donald Ballard of Soap Lake Washington; sister, Joan Gross of Taft along with her children, Kristine Shelley and husband Shawn Shelley and their two children Destiny and Dakota Shelley of Taft, and Robyn (Gross) Turner of Taft (who is also Gene's goddaughter).

Gene is also survived by a special group of friends who followed him through school and adulthood; Curt Spinelli and his daughter Nicole Spinnelli of Taft, Mike Lamarzna of Bakersfield, Mike and Carrollynn Henshaw of Bakersfield, Dennis and Niki Schertz of Taft, and Brian and Rhonda Reeves of Bakersfield.

Memorial Services will be on August 21st, 2011 at 2:00pm at Erickson & Brown Mortuary in Taft. Per his request, Gene's remains will be placed under an apple tree in Washington State.

Gene will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in Peace, Gene.
