FRED BENNETT

Fred Bennett, Terrell resident, died in a local hospital Friday afternoon.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Anderson-Clayton Chapel in Terrell with Rev. Ira Thompson officiating. Internment will be in Oakland Memorial Park with members of the Odd Fellows Lodge serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Bennett, a son of the late Parris Bassar Bennett and Fannie Mae Starns Bennett, was born in Lawson, Texas on Dec. 11, 1900. He was a resident there until he moved to Terrell in 1912. He was educated in the Terrell public schools and was a 60-year member of the Terrell Odd Fellows Lodge. He operated a grocery store known as "Bennett's Store" from 1952 until his retirement in 1974.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bennett was married to Odie Adele Buyher on Nov. 11, 1922, and to this union one child was born. His wife preceded him in death in March of 1979 and he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Anna Belle and Ralph Dorough of Terrell; one grandson, Maj. Robert Dorough of the U. S. Air Force; one granddaughter, Vinnie Perry of Royce City; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Opal B, thompson of Terrell; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
