D. "Henry" Buchanan, 81, of Connelly Springs, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, on Thursday, December 10, 2015.

Henry was born on October 5, 1934 in Mitchell County to the late Robert Lynn Buchanan and Hattie Carolyn McClurd.

He was a longtime member of Abee's Chapel Baptist Church and was retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture and East Burke Convenience Center.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers; Millard, Ralph, Tarp, Bruce and Robert Buchanan and one sister, Edna Gilland.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Florence Costner Buchanan of the home, one son, Donald Buchanan and wife Pam, one daughter, Diann Buchanan, one brother, Denver Buchanan of Rutherford College and three sisters, Maggie Butler, Lillian Burleson and Gail Wise of Hickory. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Andrea Buchanan, Krysten Buchanan and Jason Buchanan all of Connelly Springs, and Heather Ward of Morganton, and two great grandchildren, Nikalus and Shea Ward.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at Abee's Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
