Arthur Denver Buchanan, 84, of Rutherford College went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday June 9, 2017 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care following a period of declining health.

Mr. Buchanan was born September 6, 1932 in Mitchell County to the late Hattie McClurd Buchanan and Linnie Buchanan.

He served in the Navy as a machinist. Following his time in the military, he continued his career at Great Lakes Carbon.

He was a member at Abee's Chapel Baptist Church for 62 years, where he taught Sunday School for over 40 years. Mr. Buchanan enjoyed gospel music, old fashioned preaching, and gardening. He will be remembered as being a self taught, intelligent individual.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Millard Buchanan, Ralph Buchanan, Tarp Buchanan, Bruce Buchanan, Henry Buchanan, and Robert Buchanan; and sisters, Maggie Butler and Edna Gilliland.

A funeral service will be held 5:00PM Tuesday June 13, 2017 at Abee's Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Buddy Sizemore, Pastor Daniel Buchanan, Preacher Seth Buchanan, and Pastor Dewayne Buchannan officiating.

Interment will follow the service in the Abee's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor David Woods officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Abee's Chapel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care at 1721 Enon Rd. Valdese, NC 28690.
