George F. Ackert died of heart failure at New Paltz on Saturday morning, April 18, in his fiftieth year. Mr. Ackert had had very serious trouble with his heart for a number of years but was not thought to be in critical condition for some time previous to his death. He was the son of the late John Ackert and Margaret Masten Ackert.
He was the proprietor of the New Paltz Laundry which he conducted first on Main Street. When increasing business demanded larger quarters he moved to South Chestnut Street. He married Lucy Kuff and they have one son, George, Jr. Mr. Ackert was always a prominent fireman and took an active part in every way possible. His funeral was held in the New Paltz Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Otto Nichols officiating. The New Paltz Fire Department attended in a body. George Newton sang two solos, "Lead Kindly Light" and "Face to Face." The bearers were members of the fire department, E. C. Elmore, H. G. Gregory, Robert Park, Henry DuBois, John Zimmerman and Howard Zimmerman. The interment was in New Paltz Rural Cemetery. Besides his widow and son he is survived by one brother, Louis Ackert of New Paltz, and four sisters, Mrs. Stanley Decker of Newton, NJ, Mrs. Emma Judson of Newton, NJ, Mrs. Anna Williams of Freehold, NJ and Mrs. Gertrude Neilson of Freehold, NJ.
He is also mourned by a host of friends by whom he was held in great respect.
