Samuel Warren, son of Samuel Buttle Jr. and Mary (nee Warren) Buttle, was born July 15, 1835 in Courtown, Wexford, Ireland. He immigrated with his family on the Atlas and arrived in New York November 8, 1848. Samuel Warren Buttle married Naomi Francis Newman on April 25, 1858 in New York. Together, they had three daughters: Harriet Francis (aka Hattie), Mary Naomi (aka Minnie), and Sara Estelle. He enlisted in the NY Infantry and served in Regiment 36, Company G on July 5, 1861. Samuel W. Buttle was discharged in 1863 and filed a pension for poor health on June 10, 1864. He died on Putnam Avenue at the corner of Hunter Street in Brooklyn on November 19, 1869. His Certificate of Death states he worked as a bookkeeper. Samuel died of tuberculosis complicated by problems with the valves of his heart. Although he was originally listed as being buried at Cypress Hill on November 19th, he is now listed in the Green-Wood Cemetery in Lot 18262, Section 152.
