William Dye, son of Daniel Dye, Jr. and Teressia (Underwood) Dye, was born 15 Feb 1817 in Monroe Co., OH. William Dye married Mary Haywood Kay, who was born in NY, in 1850 and settled in Jackson Township, Monroe Co., OH. Their children were Hervey Elbridge, Harriet Lorilla (Lilly), Adoniram Judson (A.J.), James Monroe (Monie) and Hannah Louella (Ella) Dye. Ella was born in Sistersville, West Virginia, probably while mother, Mary (Kay) Dye, was visiting her mother, Olive (Wheeler) Kay who lived across the Ohio River in Tyler Co. This Dye family next moved to Lyonsville, Iowa where they lived for a time. They next relocated to Clay Co., IL and finally moved to Tulare Co., CA, traveling by train and settling in an area in northeastern Tulare Co., CA then known as Stokes Valley. All of the Dye children and their spouses and families moved to CA where they settled in Stokes Valley, Tulare Co. William Dye and his sons, A.J. and Monie, engaged in wheat farming. A. J. served as a teacher in a one-room school in Stokes Valley located on the Herman Beinhorn ranch. His sister would later marry Herman and the Dye family began a partnerhip in wheat growing and harvesting with Herman Beinhorn. William Dye died in 1883 in Stokes Valley, CA and Mary Dye moved about three miles from there to the town of Orosi, CA, where she was instrumental in founding the Baptist Church. Mary Dye died in Orosi, CA in 1910. Both William and Mary Dye are buried in the Visalia District Cemetery, Visalia, Tulare Co., CA, resting next to their eldest daughter, Harriet Lorilla (Dye) Beinhorn and husband Herman Beinhorn, Adoniram Judson Dye and his two wives, Mary Caroline (Moyle) Dye and Anna Belle (Hausch) Dye. A grandchild is also buried nearby. (Southeast Lot 9, Block 39).
