Adoniram Judson Dye was the third child of William Dye and Mary Haywood (Kay) Dye. He is thought to have been born in Lyonsville, Lyon Co., IA where the family lived for some time. As a young man, he moved west to CA with his family and settled in the East Orosi area of Tulare Co., CA. His father and brothers engaged in wheat farming. A. J. took a position as school teacher in the one-room Stokes Valley School House which was on Herman Beinhorn's land adjacent to his father William's ranch. He was instrumental in the introduction of Herman to his sister, Harriet Lorilla or Lily, whom Herman soon married. After Lily's death, Herman married his youngest sister, Hannah Louella/Ella.

A. J. married Mary Caroline (Carrie) Moyle in 1883. This couple had two children: Eunice Rose and William Clinton Dye. Carrie became ill with malaria fever and died at the young age of 21 years. A. J. next married Anna Belle Hausch. They had two children: Bertha Belle and Flora Beulah Dye. Bertha served as Postmaster in Orosi, CA for some time.

A. J. also was a farmer and rancher in the Cutler-Orosi-Visalia area. Voting districts include Enterprise and Sand Creek and Poso, Kern Co., CA. He is buried in the Visalia Cemetery with his first wife, Mary Caroline Moyle, his second wife, Anna Belle Hausch and his daughter, Bertha Belle (Dye) Samuelson. Their graves are next to his parents, William Dye and Mary Haywood (Kay) Dye. Also adjacent to these graves are sister Harriet Lorilla/Lily (Dye) Beinhorn and husband, Herman Beinhorn. Lily's grave is marked with a fine headstone, but for some unknown reason, there is no marker for Herman.
