Brother-in-Law of Mrs. Ward B. Manchester Died in Ithaca

Dr. and Mrs. Ward B. Manchester of No. 42 Tracy avenue have returned from Ithaca, where they attended the funeral of Charles Christian Houghton of that city, brother-in-law of Mrs. Manchester, who died on Saturday, following a six weeks' illness of typhoid fever. He was well-known to several Batavians, having visited this city frequently.

Mr. Houghton was born at Lodi on October 19, 1876. He was graduated from the Ithaca high school in the commercial course in 1894, and entered the employ of Treman, King & Co., Ithaca's largest hardware establishment. He eventually became general manager and member of the board of directors. He was a 32d degree Mason and an Elk. He was a member of the Ithaca Country club, the Rotary club and the United Commercial Travelers, and an honorary member of Ithaca fire company No. 3. Besides his wife, who was formerly Miss Leeta M. George of Lansing, he leaves a son, Charles E. Houghton; three daughters, Virginia, Elizabeth and Roberta; his mother, Mrs. A.P. Houghton, of Ithaca; two brothers, Clarence L. and George E., both of Ithaca, and two sisters, Miss Alice Houghton of New York and Mrs. Richard C. Warren of Ithaca.

Funeral services were held from St. John's Episcopal church in Ithaca and the burial was in the Lake View [sic] cemetery at Ithaca.
