Hardy, 88, died Wednesday, March 14, 1990, at the Dorsett Home in Spearfish. A memorial has been established to the First Presbyterian Church.
She was born July 21, 1901, at De Kalb, Ill., to Albert and Ida (Johnson) Veren. She grew up on her parents homestead 20 miles east of Sturgis. She attended rural school and Black Hills Normal. She taught school at Volunteer, Four Mile and also at the Alkali Divide School House which now sits at the Western Dakota Antique grounds east of Sturgis. She married Walter W. Hardy at Sturgis Oct. 15, 1923. The couple ranched near Alkali Community Hall. They moved to Sturgis in 1934 and operated a service station.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and UPW where she was a reader. She was also a member of a bible study group, Farmers Union and W.C.T.U.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Hardy of Spearfish and Carroll Hardy of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Janice Hardy of Denver, Colo. and Zihuatanejo, Mexico; two brothers, Roland Veren and Warren Veren, both of Sturgis; three sisters, Agnes Johnson of Sturgis, Mavis Lincoln of Mesa, Ariz., and Bernice Waldrop of Lancaster, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, one son, one grandson and two brothers.
