The funeral service for Irvin Albert Veren, 79, Sturgis, will be at 10:30 a.m., today (Wednesday) at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Chaplain Herbert Cleveland will officiate. Burial, under the direction of Kinkade Funeral Chapel, will be in Bear Butte Cemetery.

Veren died Sunday at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was born June 26, 1903 at DeKalb, IL, to Albert and Ida (Johnson) Veren. The family moved to South Dakota when he was 5 years old and homesteaded near Bear Butte. He attended rural schools.

He served in the armed forces during WWII. From 1954 until he retired in 1971 he was employed at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

He was married to Ellen Brown. June 6, 1968, he was married to Carroll Kelly Hysom at Sturgis.

He is survived by his widow, Carroll; one son; two stepdaughters; three brothers, Roland, Warren, and Reuben, all of Sturgis; and four sisters, Hazel Hardy and Agnes Johnson, Sturgis; Mavis Hunt, Glendale, AZ; and Bernice Waldrip, Lancaster, CA; two grandsons; and three step-grandchildren also survive. A memorial has been established.
