Sturgis --- Services for Ida Marie Veren, who would have been 97 Tuesday, will be 2 p.m. Monday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles T. White officiating.

Mrs. Veren died Friday evening at the Sturgis Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 18, 1876 in Alvesta, Sweden and came to the United States at the age of 18.

She was married to Albert Veren in DeKalb, Ill., Jan. 3, 1900. She and her husband moved to South Dakota in 1908, settling first in Spink County, and the following year homesteaded on a farm in Meade County about 20 miles east of Sturgis.

In 1923 the family moved to a ranch about six miles east of Sturgis. Her husband died in 1935 and she moved into Sturgis in 1940 where she had made her home since.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis and a memorial has been established for the church organ fund.

For many years, Mrs. Veren served as secretary for the Meade County Farmers Union.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Johnson, Mrs. Walter (Hazel) Hardy, both of Sturgis, Mrs. Berniece Waldrip, Lancaster, Calif. and Mrs. Mavis Hunt, Phoenix, Ariz.; four sons, Irvin and Roland of Sturgis, Reuben, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Warren of Menlo Park, Calif.; two brothers in Sweden; 22 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant children.

Burial will be in Bear Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis.
