Mr. Arnold C. "Tom" Dye, age 74, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Friday (May 28, 2004) in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born August 24, 1931 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late John Fred and Bertha Keen Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Marie Dye, two brothers, John Dye and Perry Dye, and two sisters, Hester Hughes and Pinky Dye.
Survivors include seven sisters, Hazel Campbell of Doran, Virginia, Jackie Johnson of Raven, Virginia, Maxie Hale of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, Sylvia Hess of Rowe, Virginia, Becky Hale of Raven, Virginia, Darlene Dye of Hansonville, Virginia, and Patty McManus of Hickory, North Carolina; three brothers, Joe Elmer Dye of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, Bobby Dye and Charlie Dye both of Swords Creek, Virginia; one step-daughter, Gaylene Reynolds of Lenoir, North Carolina; three step-sons, Alva Hess of Swords Creek, Virginia, Elden Hess of Council, Virginia, and Jackie Hess of Honaker, Virginia; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Ancil Childress and Rev. David Perkins officiating. Interment followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers were Jerry Dye, Joe Dye, Mark Dye, Ralph Campbell, Kevin Alexander, and T.C. Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Tivis Brown and Edmond Sisk
