Born in Swords Creek, he was a son of the late John Fred and Bertha Keen Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended the Ivy Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hester Hughes and Pinky Dye, and three brothers, Johnny Dye, Tom Dye and Perry Dye.
Survivors include six sisters, Hazel Campbell of Richlands, Jackie Johnson of Raven, Maxie Hale of Cedar Bluff, Sylvia Hess and her husband Raymond of Rowe, Becky Hale of Raven and Darlene Dye of Hansonville; two brothers, Joe Dye and his wife Geraldine of Cedar Bluff and Billy Dye and wife Carol of Swords Creek; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
