Alma was the second child of Peter and Marie Jorgensen, who brought their family to America in 1904. Alma lived with her parents and sisters and brothers in Wisner, Brazil Mills and Winnetoon, Nebraska, until she came to work as a cook at Dana College. It was while she worked and attended Dana College that she met Nathaniel J. "Tony" Hansen. They married on March 6, 1937 and farmed west of Blair for many years. When they retired from farming, they purchased an acreage on north 25th Street in Blair, just below the Dana campus.
In her retirement years Alma worked at the Good Shepherd Home, the Blair laundry and did child care in her home. Alma was a great cook and enjoyed gardening and flowers. Before her eye sight began to fail, she loved doing handiwork and quilting. Alma was proud of her Danish heritage and kept it alive by preparing Danish food and telling Danish stories and history as she remembered it. She was active in her Christian church life in the Lutheran and Methodist churches. After Alma sold her home, she moved to Crowell Home. Alma was preceded in death by her husband, N.J. "Tony" Hansen, her parents, four brothers and half brothers and half sisters. She is survived byt two sisters: Helen Walker (Blair, Ne) and Bertha Scheer (Rantoul, Ill.); one brother, Maurice Jorgensen (Osage, Iowa) and many nieces and nephews.
(Condensed, by Jean Jorgensen, from an obituary by her niece, Betty Johnson).
