"Chris Petersen was born at Heden, Asdal Parish, Jutland, [Denmark], the son of Marie Petersen and Svend Christian Thomasen of Asdal, Hjorring, Jutland. He was baptized on Feb. 21, 1892 in the Asdal church, with sponsors Marie Cecile Andreasen (Larsen), his mother's sister; Thomas Peder Thomsen (Hald), her brother; and Niels Peter Christiansen (her uncle), all of Terpet in Horne Parish. After living with his grandmother and an uncle, he came to America with his mother and her husband, Peter Jorgensen, on June 22, 1904. Chris was confirmed in the Danih Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE on May 6, 1906, by Pastor F. Andersen. He lived with Peter's sister, Lizzie Larsen and her husband near Carroll for a time, according to one family source. Later he and his step-brothers, John and Joe, worked for farmers in the Pilger, NE, area. It was while working for the Chance family there that he met Clara Jensen. They were married in the Winside, NE Lutheran church on Feb. 21, 1923, and farmed south of Winside on the farm owned by his wife's parents. Their four children were born here. They purchased a farm near Carroll and lived there until retiring in Norfolk in 1957. In 1973, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary."
