Stella was the daughter of Merriman Micaja "Mack" Barker and Dulsena S. "Dulcie" Upton. She was born at home in the Alarka Community of Swain County.

She was first married to John C. Quilliams; son of Timothy Quilliams and Mariah A. Ogle, on 29 Jul 1913. Performed by: W.C. Hamrick, Baptist Minister at the home of Merrimon Micaja "Mack" Barker (father of the bride) on Alarka. John Worth Cochran, R.S. Baines and William Emanuel Shuler, witnesses.

This marriage would soon end in divorce; and no children were born to this union. John preceded her in death in 1918 as the result of influenza, complicated by pneumonia while a patient at Eastern State Hospital for the Insane located in Bearden, Knox County, Tennessee.

Stella would marry again to widower, Henry David Sneed on 23 Sep 1917. Performed by: D.S. Lindsay, Baptist Minister at the home of Mack Barker (father of the bride) on Alarka. E.P. Gibson, W.J. Simonds, and William Riley Thomas, witnesses.

Three children would be born to this union:
(1) Stillborn Sneed
(2) Hattie (Sneed) Godfrey Lindsay
(3) James Critchlow Sneed

Stella was a successful restaurant owner in Bryson City, operating the former Sneed's Restaurant which was located on Main Street.

She was 86-years of age.
