Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - May 8, 1999 Obituary: Stewart Bingham Eccles, 92, passed away peacefully, with family gathered around him, on Tuesday, May 5, 1999, in the LDS Hospital following an eleven day illness. Stewart lived a healthy, dynamic and exuberant life until he recently became ill. His most important possessions were his family and his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved to read and learn all the world had to offer and kept current on the events of each day locally, nationally and internationally. He was born in the day of the horse and buggy and lived to see and use the technology of the 1990's. He worked faithfully at his computer(s) each day recording his personal memoirs and family history. Born June 19, 1906 at Eden, Weber County, Utah, to Stewart and Anna Nielsina Rasmussen Eccles. Married Fern Elizabeth Jones, October 12,1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died May 8, 1964. Their children are Blaine S. Eccles, Geraldine Huber and Patsy Ann Barnes. Married Frances Rawlins Hayes, January 20, 1965 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Worked in the Boulder City Company Store in Boulder City, Nevada during the construction of the Hoover Dam. Received a six month mission call from Elder Harold B. Lee for the LDS Church Welfare Program in May of 1938, that continued for thirty-three and one-half years. Organized and managed LDS Church Welfare Departments, namely: Salt Lake Deseret Industries, Central Bishops Storehouse, Deseret Coal Mine Transportation, Deseret Coal Yards, Deseret Woolen Mill, Deseret Clothing Factory and Deseret Rag Rug Factory. He also served as a member of the LDS General Church Welfare Committee for many years. Traveled to nearly every state in the United States and many foreign countries attending LDS Stake Conferences and conducting Welfare Sessions. Retired in June, 1971. After retiring from the LDS Church, worked as an entrepreneur selling custom-made suits and then worked for many more years as a suit salesperson for ZCMI, Castletons, and KG Men's Stores before retiring permanently from the workforce.

Survived by his wife, Frances Rawlins Hayes Eccles, children Blaine S. Eccles of Salt Lake City; Geraldine (Edward) Huber of Magna; Patsy Ann Barnes of Phoenix, Arizona; step-children Charles R. (Johanna) Hayes of Ellicott City, Maryland; Stephanie (Gary) Hullinger of Salt Lake City; sisters Hazel (Frank) Larsen, Pearl Hilton, Ellen (Dern) Campbell all of Salt Lake City, Louise Stout of Bountiful and Mabel McMahon of San Luis Obispo, California; sister-in-law Reva Scholtz; 17 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Viewing to be held Sunday, May 9, 1999, Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, from 6-8p.m. and at the church on Monday, prior to the services, from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment will be at Elysian Gardens, Salt Lake City, Utah.
