James Robert Murphy, 78, of St. Joseph, died at 10:55 p.m. Monday [December 13, 1965] at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Daviess County, February 8, 1887, and had lived here all his life. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Theresa Murphy; a daughter, Sister Joseph Theresa of Helen, MD; 8 sons, Dr. H.R. Murphy and John R. Murphy, both of Owensboro, Daniel Edward Murphy, Pleasant Ridge, the Rev. T.A. Murphy, Curdsville, Robertus Murphy of Rt. 5, Owensboro, J.C. & Murray Murphy, both of Rt. 1, St. Joseph, Bernard L. Murphy, Rt. 3, Owensboro; 40 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild; a brother, M.R. Murphy of Owensboro; 5 sisters, Mrs. Ella Kurz, Mrs. Loretta Cecil, both of Owensboro, Mrs. Rose B. Rummage of Henderson, Sister Mary Daniel of Ashland, and SIster Rose Mary of Clinton, IA. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with a solemn high Mass in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
