Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 7, 1946.

Thomas served as a Major & Observer on B-17F #41-24546, 403rd Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Pinellas County, Florida prior to the war.

Thomas was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 failed to return from a mission to shadow a Japanese convoy of four destroyers in the Vitiaz Strait which is between New Guinea & New Britain during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
