He was not officially declared as being dead by the military until January 7, 1946. The above date is the actually date that his plane was declared as missing.

Omar served as a Sergeant on B-17F (#41-24546), 403rd Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Jefferson County, Texas prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 3, 1941, prior to the war, in Houston, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Plumber and also as Single, without dependents.

Omar was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 failed to return from a mission to shadow a Japanese convoy of four destroyers in the Vitiaz Strait which is between New Guinea & New Britain during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
