Son of Mrs. Edna T. Trotter who resided in Shreveport, Louisiana.

James served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24J #42-110139, 23rd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Caddo Parish, Louisiana prior to the war.

B-24J #42-110139 took off Los Negros, Admiralty Islands on a shipping strike mission off of Yap Island. They were hit in the No. 4 engine by anti-aircraft fire and were also attacked by Japanese Zeros. They crashed into the sea with a loss of the entire crew.

James was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
