SCRANTON - Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Matthews Wilkes will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Beulah Free Will Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Faith. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta.
Mrs. Wilkes, 78, died Friday afternoon in a Florence hospital after a long illness. She was born in Florence County, a daughter of the late Pleasant and Isabelle Lee Mathews. She attended Beulah Free Will Baptist Church of the Pentecostal Faith.
Surviving are five daughters, Miss Rosia Wilkes of Scranton, Mrs. Mildred Lee of Florence, Mrs. Katheleen McKenzie of Fayetteville, N.C., Mrs. Virginia Cook of Winter Park, Fla., and Mrs. Madgalene Smith of Coward; seven sons, the Rev. Leland Wilkes of Lake City, Ralley Wilkes, Freeland Wilkes, and James Wilkes all of Scranton, Ernest Wilkes of Shippingburg, Pa., William Wilkes of Olanta and Adam Wilkes of Florence; a brother, Daniel Matthews of Scranton; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Coward of Scranton and Mrs. Martha Miles of Coward; 42 grandchildren; 12 great-grantchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
