SCRANTON, Sept. 10 - (Special) - Miss Vermell Matthews, 72, lifelong resident of Scranton, died at 9:50 Monday following an extended illness.
She had made her home with a sister, Mrs. Willie Coward for the past 25 years.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Jimmy Deas and the Rev. Horace McKenzie from the Beulah Free Will Baptist Church on the old No. 4 Highway.
Burial will be in Hicks Cemetery near the church.
Miss Matthews was the daughter of the late Pleasant and Genetta Miles Matthews of the Lynches township community. She was a member of Free Will Baptist Church.
Active pallbearers will be Joe Coward, Edward Matthews, Dessie Springs, Adam Wilkes, Smiley Joe Matthews, and Leland Wilkes.
Surviving are a brother, Daniel Matthews of Scranton; five sisters, Mrs. Annie Wilkes, Mrs. Mary Coward, Mrs. Becky Poston, Mrs. Fannie Miles, all of Scranton and Mrs. Martha Miles of Coward.
