Ellen Marie "Debbie" Whitney Gerard, aged 76, of Liverpool, passed away Saturday at home. She lived in Syracuse all her life. She retired from NYNEX in 1991 after 23 years of service. She sang in many choral groups: the Berwald Concert Singers, the Vocaliers, the Apollo Choraliers, the Dewitt Choraliers, the Village Singers, the Tri-Tones and a member of the "Something Special Trio" that sang together for 16 years. She was also a member of the Manlius Senior Theatre Troupe for nine years. She was an active communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where she sang in the Sunday & Resurrection choirs; and was also in charge of adoration, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Legion of Mary (Our Lady of Fatima Praesidium), a Third Order Dominican and formed and led the "Servants of Mary" prayer group for nine years. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Ellen Ryan; her father, James F. Whitney Sr.; and her brother, Gerald David Whitney. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Lynn Gerard; her son, James William Gerard; her brother, James F. Whitney Jr.; half-sister, Pam Worlock; four stepsisters, Judy Taylor, Bonnie Gedney, Penny Gessini, Diane Mancini; a stepbrother, Daniel Whitney; and grandson, Jacob Joseph Anderson. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Interment: Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to: Unity Acres, 2290 County Route 2, P.O. Box 153, Orwell, NY 13426; or Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
